DESCRIPTION

Cherry is classified as a moderately heavy wood variety. It is very tough but is prone to shrinkage and must be seasoned well in order to stabilize properly. Cherry will also darken when exposed to light.

QUALITIES

  • Averages 2.8 lbs. per board foot (144 cubic inches) 
  • Heartwood can be anywhere from light to dark brown but with a reddish tint
  • Sapwood can be much lighter in color than the heartwood but is usually considered a defect among craftsmen.
